History of Reflexology

Reflexology is believed to date back to ancient Egypt, so has been around for thousands of years. Many medically related photos have been found in the tomb of Ankhmaor dated back to 2500BC. Up until 200AD in Greece, Delphi was an ancient health resort where Reflexology was one of the treatments used to create foresight, wellbeing and relaxation.

More recent, modern Reflexology practices the methods pioneered and developed in the 1930's. Dr Fitzgerald discovered that by applying pressure on the tips of fingers and toes caused the corresponding body parts to become anaesthetised and discovered Zone Therapy.

Eunice Ingham pioneered modern Reflexology by using the zone therapy developed by Dr Fitzgerald and applying it to the feet and by using acupressure and other massage techniques, developed a map of the entire body on the feet which is still used today on modern Reflexology.

What is Reflexology?

  Reflexology is ...

  • A non intrusive complementary therapy
  • It treats the person, not the condition
  • A Holistic Therapy that treats the whole body

Based on the theory that the different organs and systems of the body can be mapped to different points or areas on the hands, feet, ears, face and lower legs.

Reflexologist believe through working theses points or areas, they may have an effect on the corresponding organs or systems within the body.

Reflexology is a safe, natural therapy using techniques of applying pressure to reflex areas of the feet, face, ears or hands to promote the body's own healing process and enhance your physical and emotional well being.

Things that may benefit from Reflexology:

  • Increased wellbeing
  • Release on tension
  • Mood improvement
  • Improved Sleep
  • Relaxation

The only real way to find out if Reflexology can help you is to try it for yourself.
